Start with a blank form. Enter the amount, period and inflation information needed for your chosen method. Results are estimates for comparison and planning.

Important note

This calculator does not supply an official inflation series. It compounds the rate you enter so you can compare equivalent value and purchasing power across time.

Core inputs
Choose whether to move a past amount forward or estimate the earlier equivalent of a current amount.
Use the cumulative rate for the full period or an annual rate that will be compounded over time.

English-style numbers such as 10,000.50 are supported; common pasted comma-decimal formats are also normalized.
Changes the display unit only; no foreign-exchange conversion is performed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this inflation calculator calculate?

It estimates the equivalent value of money across time using the inflation rate you enter. It can move a past amount forward or estimate the earlier purchasing-power equivalent of a current amount.

Why should the result be treated as an estimate?

Actual household purchasing power depends on the price index, spending mix, period and data source. This calculator compounds the rate you enter and does not replace an official inflation index.

When should I use total inflation instead of an annual rate?

Use total inflation when you already know the cumulative price change for the full period. Use the annual-rate method when you have an average annual rate and want to compound it over the selected number of years.

How is purchasing-power loss calculated?

For a forward inflation factor, purchasing-power loss is derived from the inverse of the price-level increase. A 100% price increase, for example, means the same nominal amount buys about half as much.

Does this calculator fetch an official inflation rate automatically?

No. The rate is user-entered so the tool can be used with any country, index or planning assumption. Always verify the rate and period against the source you intend to use.
